Why Japan? Why???

HELP! I don't understand! After being in Japan for more than a year, I still can't make heads or tails of some things Japanese people do.

I realize there are several cultural differences between Japan and “the West”, but I can’t help but wonder why they do these things. So, if anyone out there can give me a logical answer to any of these questions, please leave me a comment.

Why are there so many people doing stupid things on TV?

Why are Japanese people so polite and respectful most of the time but so rude and wild when getting in and out of trains?

Why do Japanese people study something in university and end up doing something completely different for a living?

Why is it so hard (impossible so far) to find hamburger buns in a supermarket?

Why do Japanese prefer to stay in 1 job for their whole lives? It kinda reminds me of Bee Movie.

Why do guys use purses that are clearly for women? And why do 95% of the guys have long, straight hair?

Why is fish so freaking expensive? I mean, it's a staple food, it should be cheap, shouldn't it?

Why do so many girls put their whole closets on when they go out? I mean, why do they wear jeans with a skirt, 2 blouses, a sweater, 2 scarfs, a camisole... you get the point.

Why are Japanese people so clean, but share the bathtub water with everyone in the family?

Why are they sooooooooooo shy?

Why are they so shy, but love taking baths totally naked in front of many strangers?

Why do people have to go out drinking with their co-workers pretty much every day in order to "develop the relationship"? I mean, how much do you have to drink to get to know each other?

Why do Japanese people pray at Buddhist temples, have funerals at Shinto shrines and then get married at Christian churches?

Why do Japanese women wear skirts with boots and leave their knees completely naked in the middle of winter?

Why are many English students embarrased of studying in groups?

Why do Japanese wives want their husbands to come home as late as possible?
